Rafa Named Manager Of The Month

Ed Colenutt, November 14th 2008

Rafa Benitez has today been named Barclays Manager of the Month for October. The Reds enjoyed four straight league victories in October which saw them end the month level on points with Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table.

Most notable was the victory over their West London title rivals, Liverpool’s 1–0 victory over Chelsea ending their long standing unbeaten run at home. The month also featured two thrilling 3-2 victories over Manchester City and Wigan, plus a 1–0 win against Portsmouth at Anfield.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.tv, Benitez said: "I am really pleased to receive this on behalf of my staff because they are doing very well. People like Sammy Lee, Mauricio Pellegrino, Xavi Valero and Paco Di Miguel,"

"It's important for the staff and it's important because it means the team is playing well - you can't win Manager of the Month unless the team is winning."

"It means the club is in a good position. Hopefully we can receive more awards like this because it means we'll be in a good position at the end of the season."
